This layer shows the locations of documented poultry facilities used for meat production in Maryland and across the US, used to contextualize where heat wave exposure is most relevant to active poultry production. Approximately 99% of Maryland's documented poultry facilities are concentrated on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, making it the center of the state's poultry industry. Facilities are displayed using aggregation clustering, where points are grouped together at smaller scales and expand into individual locations as the map is zoomed in.
The data is sourced from the Farm Transparency Project (FTP) Repository, which provides a publicly available database of documented farm locations across the United States. Facilities were filtered to include all documented poultry facility types within Maryland, resulting in 645 farms.
